Back in late 2015, Tim Cross was appointed Captain of the UK’s international teams – both for face-to-face play and online – for a period of two years. That time has seen a remarkable period of success with the UK progressing from relative unknowns to the ultimate accolade of winning the Worldwide Trophy in Georgia last year, as well as a number of other strong performances. It is now time for us to start working towards an appointment for 2018-9 with a view to keeping this momentum going and growing our reputation further. To that end we are asking for people who are interested in the role to put their names forward for consideration.
The role of Captain is a demanding one – it involves selecting squads from the ranks of strong UK players, and helping them function as more than just a collection of individual players; team-building, coaching and motivational skills are high on our list of priorities, along with a familiarity with the UK’s leading players in order to make good selections. You would obviously be expected to attend overseas tournaments with the teams and make the time commitments necessary for online events. We would be prepared to consider a non-playing captain, but we would prefer a strong player who would not be out of place in the squad.
If you are interested, please get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org by the 23rd August 2017, including a brief statement of what you would bring to the role. We intend to inform the successful individual and make an announcement at the AGM at Coombe Abbey the following weekend.
