Time once again for of a pot-pourri items from which you may have missed on our social media:
Congratulations: to Peter Bennet for winning the 2015 UK Champions League Final over two matches against Stuart Mann. The League includes the best from both London and Bristol and it was appropriate to see both cities represented. Also to Andreas Sophocleos, who is 2015 Coventry Open champion.
Recorded Matches: The Champions League finals have been added to our library, along with six of the best from Gaz Owen’s championship-winning run in Cyprus. Many thanks to everyone who has provided games for us!
Julian Fetterlein’s Seminar from the UK Open is now available on video in the Members’ Area. You’ll also find Grant Hoffman’s guide to dividing by 1296 in your head…
We have another appeal for players, this time in the Bury St Edmunds area. Interested in getting a group established? Backgammon in East Anglia is a little thin on the ground and it would be good to see more action! We’ve also come across a tournament at the Cherwell Boathouse in Oxford – sadly too late to let you all know this time, but we’ll hopefully be able to give you news next time.
Next year’s calendar is filling up with events, and the events are filling up with players! The 2016 Birmingham Open is already fully booked, and the Blackpool Imperial Cup was down to the last couple of places when I last checked… also the forthcoming Backgammon Masters Series #6 is increased to 24 players and is also fully booked. Let this be a warning to all to book promptly!
And finally… we’ve been in touch with the students at the City and Guilds of London Art School who have a thriving backgammon club and an annual tournament. A UKBGF t-shirt and cube is on its way as a prize! We’d like to hear about clubs at other colleges and universities too!
