Nominations are now open for the British Backgammon Awards 2017
The UK Open is not far away now, and once again we are looking for the select few who have gone that extra mile for the backgammon world in the last year – well, strictly the time since the Awards were last held at the UK Open in May 2016. And we are looking to you, our members, to tell us who you think they are! Obviously we have featured some high-profile tournament winners and the international teams on the website before, but just as important for the health of the game are the tournament directors, the club organisers, the numerous helpers behind the scenes, and the players who may never even have won a trophy but whose presence makes an evening session a highly enjoyable experience.
Nominations are being accepted in the following categories:
- British Player of the Year
- International Player of the Year
- Tournament Director of the Year
- Club Organiser of the Year (New category!)
- Most Significant Contributor to British Backgammon of the Year
- Board Designer of the Year
- Most Courteous Player of the Year
To nominate your favourites, simply mail firstname.lastname@example.org with a list of your nominees and what categories you are nominating them in. Joint nominations are allowed. Please include a brief reason why you’re nominating them – it need only be a few words to encourage others to support your nominee! You can even nominate more than one person in each category, although you’ll only be able to vote for one in each category when the time comes. Nominations close at midnight on 28th July 2017. We will announce the shortlists by the end of July and voting will take place between then and the UK Open. Note – you must be a UKBGF member to vote.
The British Backgammon Awards ceremony will take place at the UK Open on the 3rd September. Just as a reminder, you can see last year’s winners here…
