While we have a number of articles on the UKBGF website going through the finer details of prepared positions, we haven’t had too many from live play. Sean Clennell set us a bit of a challenge – to find a position of the week for you to argue over! So, we’re inviting you all to send in the positions you come across over the board that have left you stumped, to share with our members – whether they be argumentative chouettes, high-pressure tournament games or casual knockabouts. Interesting back-stories even more welcome!
Sean kicks us off with this one:
“I’m 4-0 up against John Barnes, match to 7 at the Clissold Arms, North Finchley, run by Richard Biddle. This month’s meeting. I’ve got a 5-1 to play and I’m red. I hit from my ace point. Jon said it was a blunder, but did want me to let him know. I also texted Andrew [Fotadios] with it. He said no way a hit, make your board. It turned out…”
and there I’m going to interrupt the story. Was Sean right to make the gutsy play?
All comments welcome, but no bot analysis please, I’ll be posting that along with position number 2 in a week.
If you have a position you’d like to see here, send it through to firstname.lastname@example.org.
