We’re delighted to announce that registrations are open for the London Open 2016, which this year will be over the bank holiday weekend of 27th-29th August. We’re returning to the iconic Hippodrome Casino, Leicester Square – right in the heart of London’s Theatreland. Not only is it stage 5 of the UKBGF Tour, it’s the largest tournament in the country and attracts a substantial number of international players.
There are two flights, Open and Professional, both strictly limited to 128 players. The Professional flight includes a mandatory £250 side pool plus optional pools, to appeal to the big rollers among you. Both flights feature an innovative format which guarantees you get plenty of play, where no-one has to play dead rubbers and no-one goes out until they have played four matches.
Over Saturday, and Sunday morning, everyone plays four 11 point matches with other members of their flight. Assuming 128 entrants, there will be eight players left undefeated, who progress straight to the last sixteen of the main tournament for that flight. Those with three wins progress to qualifying rounds with four more places in the main up for grabs; likewise those with two wins will battle it out for three main places and those with one win will play for the last spot. From there on, it’s a straight knockout to each of the two titles. If we have fewer people remaining, the numbers in each group after the four rounds will vary but the overall format is the same.
If you have an appetite for more, there will be a £500/£1000 Super Jackpot, a Doubles tournament on Saturday night, more jackpots all weekend, and a Last Chance. It promises to be a packed weekend full of top quality backgammon! Places are strictly limited so make sure you register in good time – visit the London Open website now!
