I am pleased to report that the UK online team, comprising Jon Barnes, Charles Hill, Sebastian Wilkinson, Gaz Owen and Chris Rogers, has reached the 3-way final of the European Online Championship along with Norway and Germany. Many of the giants of European backgammon have fallen along the way, so this constitutes a real achievement by the UK team. The final will be all-play-all and if one team wins both of their two matches they will be declared champions. If each team wins one match we play again! Good luck team UK.
Do be aware that all of the team play live as well as online, if you are still considering how to cast your Giants vote…
I would also like to take this opportunity to praise the professionalism of EBIF who run this event, they make participating in their events a pleasure.
Meanwhile – for those who would like to try some European level online play, there is still time to sign up for the 6th EBIF Open. Play starts on the 1st February, and you can register to play here; registrations close on the 31st January so don’t delay. You’ll need an account on GridGammon (preferably) or FIBS. The format is, like the team event, triple-elimination so you’re guaranteed at least three 13-pointers! Gaz Owen and Eric McAlpine already have their names in the EBIF hall of fame and it would be great to see more UK players appearing there.
