Having teased you with some match play cubes, recently, we’re back to chouette money play, and one of those rolls you didn’t really want to see. This one got the team arguing enough that money changed hands over what might be the right play – would you be sure enough to place a bet?
The human consensus wins again – 15/10 13/10 is best, although 20/15 13/10 is at least worth a look. Slotting the 7-point is definitely wrong; when it works the 5-prime is a solid position for a cube but when it fails, Black gets his back men going. Better that any hit comes from his midpoint, leaving those back men cut off from safety while you dominate the outfield. 15/10 13/10 continues that theme – your men aiming at the open bar point are more useful than trying to obstruct the midpoint men this move, and if you do want to hit Black after he breaks the midpoint then a spare on the 20 means you don’t have to break the vital anchor to do so.
