As the Charity Challenge 2017 reaches its final stages, it’s time to start signing up for this year’s Online Championship. It’s free to enter for all members, and there will be four trophies up for grabs. Last year we had a record number of entries at 90 – there’s no upper limit so let’s try and break that again!
Play will begin on GridGammon on the 15th March, so you need to mail email@example.com by midnight on the 14th to enter – all you need to tell us is your name and ideally your GridGammon nickname. If you haven’t got an account at Gridgammon yet then please do apply as soon as possible – we will try to accommodate you as far as possible in the meantime.
You can see a list of people registered already – we’ll keep this up to date as people sign up.
In the first phase, we expect that players will take part in round-robins of 7-8 players, playing 11 point matches. You’ll have until the end of May to play these matches. The top 2 from each round-robin, plus enough best-losers to make an even draw between the groups, progress to the championship division of the second phase, which is a simple knockout, the deadlines for each round being at two-week intervals. The final will be announced here and spectators will be welcome! Everyone who doesn’t qualify for the championship division will go into a consolation knockout. Both knockouts will be seeded according to your position in your group, so every match is worth something!
The precise details of the format may be adjusted depending on numbers taking part – any changes will be notified to participants before the start.
