We have had a terrific team spirit throughout and as a team we played the final at 3.4 PR which is a staggering performance and shows how totally motivated we all were. Julia pointed out previously that we had a lower PR than our opponents in every round; gone are the days when the UK isn’t respected on the international stage.
LFDT/WFDI [The team will know what this means, I’m assured – Ed.]
The UK Online team of Gaz Owen, Sebastian Wilkinson, Chris Rogers, Leo Waters, myself, and Chris Hamilton who played in the first 3 rounds has won the European Online Championship!
The two places allocated for live European Championships team for topping the UKBGF Ratings will be taken as an average of the ratings at the end of Dec, Jan, Feb and March.
I now pass on the online captaincy to Chris Rogers who I expect to do the job with as much enthusiasm as myself and I wish him a successful time. The end of year UK team report will follow in the next couple of weeks – expect it to be positive.
Appropriately it was Tim who finished off the final tie for the UK to beat Austria 3-2, and win the tournament with a life still in hand, and with a storming PR of 3.19 in the final match against Stefan’s 6.71. What a way to retire as online captain! The match file will be appearing in the members’ area later this evening. There was quite a crowd assembled on GridGammon to watch – UK spectators clearly outnumbering our counterparts – and I’m sure a few private cheers went up when the above 61 happened…
With Tim at the helm the UK has had a fantastic year, and we can be sure Chris will carry on the good work.
