Live Backgammon is Back!

Kev Jones, Mark Calderbank and I have decided to run the Blackpool Imperial Cup this year albeit on a slightly later date – the weekend of 25th-27th June. We are confident that with the cooperation and support of players and the hotel we can make the comeback a success. We fully expect all events that usually take place will go ahead including the popular triples, poker and traditional Sunday evening curry night out. As well as our regular valued board sponsors 869-BG (Erhan) and Bone Club, we are delighted to welcome Gammoner as a new sponsor. You will be able to win one of their superb boards in the ‘Gammoner Trophy’.
There is some important information below so please read carefully. Check out our entrants page on the tournament website and you will see the sell-out entry list from 2019. If you carried your registration over to 2021 then check your monetary status which will be one of four possible listings :
- Those with no star next to their name already have registration and entry fully paid and owe nothing (but you MUST still confirm your attendance!)
- Those with one star * kindly donated the registration fee to our charity last year and therefore owe £25, entry is fully paid (but you MUST still confirm your attendance!)
- Those with two stars ** this means you requested a refund last year of your entry but registration has been paid; therefore you owe £50
- Finally those with three stars *** owe £75,
However I must mention Andy Darby, Radu Ciortan, Shaun Goode and Peter Snape, as the reason they owe £75 is because they donated the full reg/entry to our charity.
IMPORTANT NOTE 1: You must confirm entry for this year even if you are on the list, registration is not automatically carried over, and at some stage your place will be in jeopardy if you do not contact us. Please email blackpool.imperial.cup@gmail.com either to confirm your place or, just as importantly if you know you can’t make it this year, so that we can remove your name from the list and offer your place to another player. Those names highlighted on the entrants list have already confirmed.
We have decided to support the same charity this year which is “Aspired futures“. Although we gave a sizeable donation last year, it is a very small charity and during the pandemic fundraising has taken a big hit.
IMPORTANT NOTE 2: For hotel bookings please do not call the hotel. Go to our website and click on hotel tab. Click on our dedicated “tournament reservation page” – this will allow you to book directly with the hotel by altering dates, number of guests, room preference etc. (If staying Sunday evening it will allow you to do that even with the x on the calendar.) You must book in this way to be eligible for tournament resident bonuses. At this stage we are only doing bookings on a bed and breakfast basis and will update details of dining in the near future.
Please note that we have no association with any other hotel, including the Parkhouse which was our proposed overspill hotel last year.
Please feel free to post questions by adding a comment to this post or, if you prefer, contact me directly at johnwbg11@gmail.com or 07931 553829 about any aspect of the event.
We look forward to meeting with you all once again…in person rather than online.

Good afternoon
After just a few short days with your support we have well passed the 100 mark for confirmed entries. If you are on the main list but NOT highlighted then you must contact us to confirm and reserve your place, new entries are arriving quite frequently now so at some stage your place will be in jeopardy.
Once again a big thanks to all the players who have signed up to support us and hope to see you all late June. John
I wish you all a safe tournament, Unfortunately, due to international travel and Australia’s border in shut down I’ll miss it for this year again.
