The UKBGF Tour and the TWI Finals – Competition enters the final straight
Steve Bibby writes:
With the Manchester Open only days away, we have just three tournaments remaining in the season. Here is the current picture in the UKBGF TOur and TWI Finals hunt:
Congratulations to all the qualifiers since the last update:
- Tim Cross – UK Open winner
- Mike Shewry – UK Open Intermediate winner
- Beata Kiss – UK Open Intermediate finalist
- Alastair Woods – Newcastle Open winner
- Stuart Mann – Bristol Open winner
- David Phillips – Bristol Open Intermediate finalist
Here’s the current state of play after the Bristol Open:
… and the top 20 standings:
With the final 64+-player (800 points for winner) Manchester Open tournament upcoming, Kev Jones remains clear of the field but he will have a nervous time at Manchester due to all of his close rivals, Radu Ciortan, Gaz Owen and Tim Cross all pushing for the win that would take them to title deciders at BMAB and Worcester in December.
7 places still up for grabs although Gaz and Sean Casey look particularly well placed to qualify. Jon Barnes leaps into one of the remaining places due to a good Bristol performance and yours truly (Steve Bibby) clings onto the final place with ALL players in the above table snapping at the heels of current qualifiers including some outside the top 20 who finish with a flourish in the last few events.
Full tour details can be found here.
We have three guaranteed qualifiers from the UK and Bristol Opens: Mike, Beata and David.
Here is the current state of play after the Bristol Open:
… and the top 20 standings:
The Intermediate tour is also coming to a thrilling climax with a very tight battle at the top between Mike Shewry, Adrian Farthing (who has blasted his way into the reckoning with just 2 hugely impressive performances at the recent Newcastle and Bristol Opens) and last year’s TWI winner Alex Polden.
Still a total of 13 places up for grabs so, looking at the above table, many players outside the top 20 are well and truly still in the hunt and players sitting on around the 400 points mark may still have work to do to confirm qualification.
The next stage is next weekend’s Manchester Open.
Full qualifying criteria can be found on the UKBGF website under “events TWI”.
