The Players Championship 2021 – Aref Alipour successfully brings to an end 2021!!
The paradox of the Covid restrictions for live play meant that TPC 2021 was both the first and last major live event in London for 2021.
Directed and produced as ever by Jill, David, and Andrew of Backgammonlondon, a field of 82 players embraced the restrictions, and sportingly and collectively came together to create a wonderful end of season finale.
Hosted at The Ambassador Bloomsbury, and with generous sponsorship from Golden Gammon, Gammon Village, and our friends Tim and Özlem and the team of Erhan869 – plus our bespoke Perspex trophies – prizes were in abundance.
In the main event, after a dramatic semi-final victory over Mick Kamintzi, Aref Alipour met Cecilia Rogers, who had found her way into the final defeating Larry Smyth.
Ultimately, in a keenly and sportingly contested final, Aref prevailed and was the proud recipient of the Golden Gammon board that we used throughout the event for streaming – huge thanks to Simon Barget for commentary ! – and the TPC Trophy.
Cecilia, seen below, is pictured with her trophy and runners-up Erhan869 board.
In the Consolation, what nearly became a momentous day for the Women, Anna Clarke defeated Danny De Meester, while further winners of the additional Consolation and Last Chance Events were Julian Minwalla who defeated Saravanan Sathyanandha, Stuart Mann who defeated Tim Line, Larry Smyth won the “3rd place play-off” against Mick Kamintzi and the ever-smiling Radu Ciortan won the Last Chance.
A huge thanks to all who braved the environment to share in the event, we wish you nothing but health and happiness in 2022 and look forward to seeing you at The Memorial 2022 in February.
Registration is open – and note we have added a separate Intermediate Event and Super-Jackpot on top of the Masters event.
