For more information about eligibility to play in a particular flight, please refer to Registration
Full details of the formats are not yet finalised – further updates will follow. However, the Tournament Directors reserve the right to amend formats at any time if deemed necessary.
The 2019 Masters will be a double elimination format.
Clock and Baffle Box Rules:
Clock Obligation – this means that clocks must be used in all matches unless agreed otherwise by the Tournament Director. Please bring your own clock if you have one as we may not have sufficient. Note that the BG Buddy clock app is deemed to be an acceptable clock.
Baffle Box Option – this means that a baffle box may be used by mutual agreement in any Masters match.
Match Lengths – Masters
To be advised
The format will be the same as the ‘Advanced’ flight last year: a qualifying Swiss on day 1, followed by Main and Consolation knockouts on day 2. The limit on Intermediate entries will again be 64 players.
The Swiss phase will therefore comprise five 7 point matches on the Saturday. The top 16 will qualify for the Main knockout and non-qualifiers will enter a Consolation knockout, both played on the Sunday. Any ties will be broken by 1-point playoffs.
A player may enter the Intermediates just for the challenge, without paying any entry fee. In that case only the registration fee would be payable and the player would not be eligible to win any prize money. However, if this player is a member of the UKBGF, he or she would still be eligible to receive an added prize from a sponsor, or other member bonus.
Clock and Baffle Box Rules:
Option applies in both cases – this means that both players must agree to the use of a baffle box or a clock (unless imposed by a Tournament Director for scheduling or other reasons).
Provisional Match Lengths – Intermediates
Please note that match lengths may be changed if necessary to keep up with the schedule.
|Swiss qualifiers||7 points (5 matches)|
|Main knockout||7/9 points|
|Consolation knockout||5 points|
|Last Chance||5 points|
Separate Social Swiss tournaments will be organised on Saturday and on Sunday with entries closing at 11.30am on both days. These will provisionally comprise 5 rounds of 2-point matches without the use of the doubling cube.
The winner of each tournament will receive a special UKBGF doubling cube made by Geoffrey Parker Games Ltd. The winner need not be a UKBGF member to receive this prize.
A player who receives a prize on Saturday will not be eligible to win another prize on Sunday.
Provisional Match Lengths – Side Events
|Friday Warm Up||5 points|
|4-8 Player Jackpots (subject to demand)||5 points|
|Consultation Doubles||5 points|
|Super Jackpot||11 points|
Please note that, except for the Social Swiss tournaments on Saturday and Sunday, registration closes at 10am on Saturday 31st August 2019. Regardless of whether or not you have pre-registered, if you are a Masters or Intermediate player you must have paid your registration fee, entry fee and any side pool money by this deadline or you will not be included in the tournament draw. If another player pays these fees on your behalf you must be present and ready to play by 11am to avoid penalty points. However if you cut things this fine you will miss the pre-tournament announcements, and the draw. Players are strongly recommended to arrive on the Friday and pay all fees then, to avoid any mishaps.
The full tournament schedule will be published in due course.
The finals are expected to be completed by early evening on Sunday 1st September 2019
