To mark the start of UKBGF formally having members, a special auction was held at the recent Scope charity tournament – and the prime lot was the honour of being our first ever member. We are delighted to report that James Ramsey won the auction with a fantastic bid of £1700, becoming Member No. 1 and being granted lifetime membership – as well as helping a very deserving cause.
Due to huge demand from the backgammon public we have decided to auction the next 20 membership numbers. We already have a bid of £1,000 for Membership Number 2 and a bid of £500 for Membership Number 007!
Update 25th March: Due to unprecedented demand and the fact that many people have been interested in numbers higher than 21, we are opening up the ‘cherished’ membership numbers to allow everybody to bid for the number of their choice (within reason i.e. number one million will not be sold!) and to extend the deadline for bidding to midnight on Sunday 26th April.
For successful bids under £1000 simply add the cost of the desired Basic or Premium membership package. Successful bids of £1000+ will automatically bestow Founder Member status for life on the winning bidder.
All personalised membership numbers would make ideal birthday or other gifts for friends and family and could last a lifetime so don’t miss out – get your bids in now!
Bidding will be on a sealed bid basis. If you would like to bid for one or more numbers please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the number/s that you would like to bid for and the amount that you would like to bid. Players may only win one membership number so please state a preference if you are bidding for more than one number. If you bid over £1,000 (and win the bid) then your membership will be at Founder Member level and will be for life.
Bidding closes on 26th April at midnight. Bids received after this point will not be counted. Whoever has submitted the largest sealed bid at that point will win the number in question. If they have already won another number then the 2nd highest bid will win and so on.
Don’t worry if you do not have a few hundred pounds to spare. You are just as important to the UKBGF. Obviously we want to maximise income so that we can promote backgammon as best that we can but it is just as important that we are inclusive and that we get as many members as possible. A £25 member is just as important as a £1,700 member.
Full details of the available membership packages are given here:
Membership will open to everyone on the 1st April (assuming HSBC pull their finger out and set our bank account up!). All unsold membership numbers will subsequently be allotted on a strictly first come, first served basis.
We are delighted that so many people have shown their support for the new UKBGF in this way. The committee are truly grateful for the overwhelmingly positive response that we have received.
Roll well and we hope to see you soon!
