Inverness Roll to Victory in Inaugural Backgammon Clash

The inaugural Inter-Club tournament between the UK’s two most northerly backgammon clubs saw Inverness Backgammon Club (IBC) claim victory against Aberdeen Backgammon Club (ABC) at the Chieftain Hotel in Inverness yesterday, Sunday, September 13.

Five of IBC’s strongest players took on four of Aberdeen’s finest, with three rounds of four 5-point matches, producing an afternoon of closely fought backgammon. With every match counting, IBC edged ahead to secure a 7–5 victory overall, giving the home side the honour of claiming the inaugural bragging rights.

Sheffield Open 2027: Registration Now Open

Following a successful inaugural event in 2026, the Sheffield Open returns next year in an expanded format at a new city centre venue.

The Sheffield Open 2027 will take place from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 May 2027 at voco Sheffield, in the heart of Sheffield city centre. After the success of the first Sheffield Open, and in response to strong interest from players, we are delighted to be bringing the event back on a bigger scale for 2027.

Could you be the next Captain of Team UK?

After five years in the job, Chris Rogers is stepping down as UK Team Captain at the end of this year. As the same time, Julia Hayward is coming to the end of her current two-year term of office as captain of the UK women’s team, and Geoff Hall as captain of the online team, and in future these positions will be open to applications rather than hand-picked by the UK Team Captain.

The England teams – and Dave – ready to do battle in London

Highlights of their terms have been a third-place finish in Venice in 2022, and a superb 5-0 rout of an outstanding Japan team in Stockholm 2024. The women’s highlight was also in Stockholm, reaching the final of the first ever women’s event at this level.

Places available at London Bootcamp

Short-notice places available for the London Bootcamp – with an expanded
coaching lineup!

We have some exciting news for those looking to take their backgammon game to the next level. Due to a few unexpected changes, a limited number of places have become available at short notice for our highly anticipated London Bootcamp, taking place on the 26th and 27th of September.

But the good news doesn’t stop there. I am absolutely thrilled to announce a major update to our tutoring lineup: Reece Hodges will now be joining the teaching team! He will be joined by Julian Fetterlein, Pete Heskett, and Tim Cross. This is possibly one of the strongest teaching teams Jangler has had the pleasure of seeing at a bootcamp.

WBGF World Teams Individual Championships, Mercure Hotel, London, Days 3-4, August 29-30, 2026

Backgammon.  Somehow it looked… glorious

The WBGF World Teams and Individual championships wrapped smoothly with plenty of talking points and good vibe stories over the final 36 hours.  Our champion from the double Danish final was the kind and gracious Fred Mikkelson who had time for everyone and outlasted Pia Jeppesen in a tense final.  Pia fought back superbly from 4-10 to go 12-10 and it looked like one of the Grande Gammoning Dames of global history could rule the world.  But it was not to be and Fred won 17-13 in a fine match, well worth enjoying on Youtube.
