UKBGF Tour – Scoring

The UKBGF Tour consists of a series of the most prestigious events around the UK. Each event awards points to UKBGF members that accumulate over the course of the year, rewarding consistently good performance. The scoring has been designed to reflect the difficulty of winning each event, and not penalise anyone for receiving (or not receiving) byes. Our ultimate Tour winner will not be able to sit back on an early lead gained by a couple of big wins; on the other hand, simply attending every event will also not be enough…

Event scoring:

The points awarded for each position are listed below, for tournaments with at least 64 players. Tournaments with fewer than 64 entrants have their points reduced on a pro-rata basis. Players only score the greater of the Main and Consolation scores.

Scoring is designed to accommodate a wider variety of event formats and to balance the points available at each. In the case of events run as knockouts, or those with a final knockout stage, the top 32 players in the Main and the top 16 in the Consolation will score points as follows.

At events where the top 32 of the Main (and/or the top 16 of the Consolation) do not follow a simple knockout structure, points will be awarded according to the general scheme.

Consolation places will be awarded 40% of these scores.

Points will be averaged over places that finish joint equal and may be rounded off. Example: at the Blackpool Imperial Cup, the top 16 is a simple knockout so scores are awarded as in the normal table. Places 17–24 finish joint equal on a 4‒2 record and score 85 points each. Places 25–40 finish joint equal on a 3‒2 record and score 65 points each.

Note that at some events, as in this example, more than 32 players may score points if there are places below 32nd that finish joint equal to 32nd.

Tour totals

Your final score for the Tour is simply the total of your best event scores from six of the events on the Tour. Of course you can compete as many times as you like; if you played more than 6, your worst scores would be dropped, and if you played fewer  than 6 then you would get zero for the “missing” ones.

Intermediate Tour

There is a separate Intermediate Tour, open to all players eligible for entry to Intermediate events. Participants will need to play a minimum of two Tour events, including at least one of the Intermediate events. Event winners need only attend one event.

These events are scored as per the main Tour.

Players may only be counted in one of the two Tours.

A player who enters an Intermediate event is committed to the Intermediate Tour and will not be included in the Masters Tour rankings.

What doesn’t count

Points are awarded for the main & consolation tournaments at each event.

They are not awarded for side events such as jackpots, SpeedGammon or minor consolations. They are also not awarded for Beginners.

Eligibility

Points are awarded to all participants in the relevant tournament who are UKBGF members at the close of registration. Points will not be awarded retrospectively to participants who subsequently join, or renew a lapsed membership.
