The Hub daily puzzle has been a fixture of the site for two or three years, and attracts 100-150 players every day. I’ve just added another 550 puzzles and thought people might be interested in how they’re produced.
For some time, Hub has had the option to play against a computer opponent, via the “Play a Bot” button. Anyone can play single point matches against a weak AI opponent. Hub members can play longer matches and stronger opponents.
A new “tutor mode” feature has just been added to all bot matches. Enabling tutor mode gives hints and analysis during play, with various configuration options.
In the latest Backgammon World Championship satellite final, an intriguing clash between The Packster (Jason Pack to his friends) and Tony Lee will take place today (Good Friday) @ 1700.
Jason, a Grand Master, has already won two satellite tournaments in earlier years with very impressive PRs, mostly around the 2 level. His victims were Tim Wyse, Micky Fernadez, Steve Pickard and Julian Minwalla.
The 2024-5 UKBGF Charity Challenge drew to a close just before Christmas after a gruelling 21 rounds and nearly a year’s worth of play behind us. The trio of Dominic Murgia, Adrian Jones and Krzysztof Cebula played each other to settle the final places and the destination of both side pools and a copy of “Back Checker Strategy”; the final match played was Dominic v Adrian and it turned out to be a very fitting affair, swinging back and forth right through to the DMP game and even that went to the last roll of the bearoff before Dominic took the title. London’s answer to NYC’s Remington Davenport has arrived.
If you haven’t already heard, a new collective is shaking up the capital’s backgammon scene. Backgammon & Wax (B&W), run by Ben Bailey Smith (aka Doc Brown), Edwin John, and Jeremy Newton, is bringing live backgammon to a new crowd, pairing tournament play with DJs and a vibrant atmosphere.
They have successfully launched monthly nights across the city, including:

● North London Tavern, Kilburn
● Club Flamingo, Soho
● Fox and Firkin, Lewisham
