Tournament to be held over May Bank Holiday weekend
This UKBGF flagship tournament will once again be held at Woodland Grange, Leamington Spa. However, for one year only, next year’s event is being held over the late May Bank Holiday weekend -Friday May 22 to Monday 25 – to accommodate the World Teams Championship taking place in London in August.
There will be warm-ups and side events on the Friday, with the main tournament starting on Saturday.
It was a full house of 64 players (with 10 on the waiting list*) for the fourth Worcester Intermediates tournament on Saturday won by Charles Pell who hails from Cambridge, coming out on top with six wins, beating Richard Bassett from Lowestoft in the final.
As a member of the UKBGF the victory secures Charles a place at next year’s Tour Invitational event at Shrigley Hall in Macclesfield in January.
Where cubes fly and engines roar!
Start your engines and roll your dice! The 2025 edition of this backgammon bash took a turbocharged twist as the tournament screeched into a new venue: the jaw-dropping Five Zeros Supercars barn in Bradford-on-Avon. After the sudden closure of the Rainbow Casino, the hunt for a new home led to a serendipitous breakfast among Lamborghinis and Ferraris—and the rest will become high-octane history.
️ Venue Vibes: Where Diner Meets Designer
Imagine this: a gleaming garage of million-pound motors, an American-style diner and a mezzanine bar with panoramic views of automotive art. It’s not just a car lover’s paradise—it’s now officially a backgammon battleground.
After a number of years, Steve Lee has decided to step down from running the West Yorkshire Open.
Keith Gill will be the new TD for the event which will take place between Friday 27th to Sunday 29th March of next year. Some things haven’t changed: The venue will be the same – Clayton Village Hall – and Mark Calderbank will be supplying the software as in previous years. The other members of the team from last year will also be helping.
Trophies for the event are being provided by Steve Allott who also provided the trophies for this year’s UK Open.
