With 2022 approaching we are we are still unsure about when live play will be back to ‘normal’. Now is a good time to remind readers of this blog of the benefits of UKBGF membership for both live and online play. But first, news about membership numbers, and I’ll start at the beginning….
Nominations are now open for elections to the Board of the UK Backgammon Federation for the two year term 2020-21. If you wish to stand in this election, please send an email indicating so to email@example.com, along with a photograph of yourself taken within the last 2 years, and a statement (maximum of 250 words) in support of your candidacy, before 23.59 on 8th September 2020; that is, the day before the AGM. Nominations received after that time will not be accepted. You can find examples of past statements here. If you would like to know more about what being on the Board entails, please feel welcome to ask any of the existing members.
We will be electing up to nine Board members this time; as the UKBGF has grown, so has the workload and we are keen to make sure we are not over-reliant on a small number of people. We will also adopt a similar regional format as last time to ensure that the Board has a geographical spread that reflects the distribution of members; there will be two places guaranteed for Board members in each of three regions (London/SE, Midlands/Wales/West and North/Scotland/Northern Ireland)
Nearly three years ago, on 29th April 2015, all UK backgammon players were invited to become members of the UKBGF and since then 470 players (including a good few from overseas!) have done so. During recent months, with this third anniversary approaching, the UKBGF Board decided that now would be a good time to review both the membership structure and membership fees. Changes are currently being implemented but for most of our existing members no action will be required until their next renewal date.
Voting ended a few minutes ago for the UKBGF Elections at 6 p.m. UK time. In total 169 people voted. The last vote was cast at 5:34 p.m.
The votes have been counted and I am very pleased to be able to announce the results.
The new Board of the United Kingdom Backgammon Federation will be:
• Peter Bennet
• Julia Hayward
• Raj Jansari
• Tim Cross
• Anna Clarke
• Simon Morecroft
• Tony Lezard
