The UKBGF is very keen to assist the creation and growth of local backgammon clubs and sees them as vitally important to the future of the game. While there are a number of long-established and successful clubs, we recognise that there are significant variations across the country in how easy it is to find a game. We are therefore launching the New Club Start-Up Assistance Scheme to help those who would like to organise one.
The scheme will apply to the setting up of any new club, plus any recently started embryonic club struggling to become established. This could be based in a region, city, town or village. Or it could be based in a school, a college or a workplace – in fact any potential backgammon community.
Each club organiser can apply for a start-up grant of £100, outlining how they will spend the money. This could be on equipment, a publicity campaign, or any other relevant expenditure. Once spent, they should give us feedback on what they have done and how they are benefitting, which will enable us to further publicise the scheme.
Each club making use of the scheme will be allotted a named UKBGF clubs advisor, who will be available for consultation on all matters relating to running a backgammon club or group.
We will also advertise the club via our website and other means. If the club sets up social media accounts, we will link to you.
Twelve months after receiving the initial grant, a further £50 grant will be allotted, subject to the club/group’s continued existence. Again, feedback on how the money was spent will be required.

If space and/or cost are an issue, the Backgammon Shop also supplies Economy Backgammon Sets, which can be bought using the offer below:
- Large (57x47cm)
- Medium (50x37cm)
- Small (38x28cm)
For all orders over £100 (excluding shipping costs) you get 10% discount on books and 15% discount on all other items (boards, precision dice, scoreboards and more!)
15% discount on all items (excluding books),
Anyone wishing to take advantage of these offers must ask the UKBGF to give The Backgammon Shop confirmation that they are a new club. These offers are available only once to each new club.
Note: The scheme does not apply to internet-based clubs who do not physically meet to play, nor clubs which meet outside of the United Kingdom.
