We are delighted to announce the schedule and lineup of commentators for Day 2 of the forthcoming UK v Germany online match on Sunday 12th May 2024:
4th round, 17:00 UK time: Individual 11 point matches
Featured match: Andrew Fotiadis (UK) v Bernhard Kaiser (Germany)
Commentary: Kent Goulding and Dan Rovira (also for 5th round)
Kent Goulding is the current St Louis Gateway Open Champion. His citation when inducted into the USBGF Hall of Fame reads “esteemed as a backgammon player, publisher, director/organizer, witty auctioneer, and raconteur extraordinaire. He introduced the first U.S. backgammon rating system, and as director of the World Cup, he instituted the use of clocks and recorded matches.”
Dan Rovira was Midlands Open Champion, 2022 and joint winner of the UKBGF award for the most significant contribution to UK backgammon, 2022. His “Backgammon is Beautiful” YouTube channel has many interviews with top players as well as instructional videos.
5th Round, 19:30 UK time: Individual 11 point matches
Featured match: Sebastian Wilkinson (UK) v Dirk Schiemann (Germany)
Commentary: Kent Goulding and Dan Rovira
This match is an eagerly awaited clash of two of the top players in the world. Dirk is one of only two Super Grand Masters.
Apart from the Double Match Point round (consisting of one point matches, no cube), 2 points are awarded for a win and 1 point for a superior Performance Rating (essentially this is a measure of accuracy).
In the event of a 75-75 tie, there will be a penalty shootout. Remember 1990 and 1996 football heartbreak? Five of our players will take on five of theirs, selected by the Captains, in DMP one point matches.
