A Grand Showdown of Skill and Strategy
“As the knight doth weigh his sword, so must the player reckon his dice – for fortune favours not the rash, but the wise who know when to strike and when to yield!”
This year, the 1066 Backgammon Tournament made its return to St. Leonards on Sea, coinciding with the return of the Bayeux Tapestry to England.
This year’s tournament was attended by some top players. Notable among them was the recently crowned World Backgammon DMP (Double Match Point) Champion, Larry Smyth, last year’s 1066 champion and members of the team who won the UK clubs champions.
Players travelled from distant corners of the UK, from Newcastle to Devon. The local and dedicated club members also rose to the occasion, vying for the trophies. Hosted by the vibrant St. Leonards Backgammon Club, the event took place at the charming Horse and Groom’s event space and was directed by Lewis Potter.
