This is clearly a welcome addition to the circuit and was an instant hit. Mapperley GC had a lovely, friendly vibe, free coffee, lush fairways and slick greens.
I drew into Nottingham station suavely at 0920 for the 1000 start but had a major kerfuffle with the cabs and buses, and my arrival at 1019 was greeted with a 3 point penalty. Harsh but fair: the schedule of 5 x 9 points was pretty action-packed.

22 members of team UK [plus 10 Gibraltarians] ran amok at a superb Gibraltar Open where numbers were down slightly due to a somewhat tardy marketing campaign, but the drama was undimmed. The quality was top notch and a terrific family vibe abounded. The UK played a whopping 418 matches with a 57% win rate. Tidy. Full UK results at the end. Geoff Hall – a winner here in 2023 – had one of the best backgammon tournaments of all time with a return of 23-4. Mind-boggling stuff.
