The London Victoria casino, or “The Vic” as it is affectionately known, is hosting two of the Grosvenor UK Open qualifiers. The first of these is this Saturday 22nd February, starting at 11.30am. Boards will be provided but please remember to bring your own precision dice!
First, just to dispel any confusion about the Vic’s location, please note that it is not near to Victoria station. The full address is 150 – 162 Edgware Road, London W2 2DT and the entrance to the casino is not in Edgware Road itself but just round the corner in Harrowby Street. The venue is marked on the following map:
If you are coming by tube, Edgware Road is the nearest station, just five minutes’ walk away. Marble Arch and Paddington are also within easy walking distance (about 10 minutes). If you are driving there is a car jockey service with free car parking in the Vic’s own car park, and the congestion charge does not apply on Saturdays.
The restaurant at the Vic (shown above) is closed until 6pm which gives us a large convenient playing area. This is in addition to the VIP Poker Room which has been earmarked for our use on the day.
In common with other UK Open Qualifiers in the Grosvenor Tour, the minimum outlay to enter this tournament is just £10. For this you get:
- A free buffet lunch after the first round for all players
- A chance to win a seat in the 2014 UK Open at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, 19-21 September, value £250
- One free night’s accommodation at the DeVere Hotel at the Ricoh (for the winner)
- Points added to your 2014 London Backgammon Tour total for every match won
In addition there are optional side pools with 100% return from £10 to £100 – see the Qualifiers page for full details. Eight-player jackpots for various stakes (also 100% return) will be organised for those who suffer an unlucky early exit from the main event.
