Dear UKBGF Membership,
I would just like to provide a brief update on the UK’s progress in the recent 2023 WBIF World Team Online Championships. This event has just concluded with us finishing in joint fourth place out of nations (tied with Germany and Poland). Italy won the event, with Austria second and Iran third. You can see the full results at the WBIF website.

The UK Team consisted of Seb Wilkinson, Aref Alipour, Gaz Owen, Pete Heskett, Reece Hodges and Chris Bray.
I am very pleased to report that each and every player in our team played an average PR of below 4, with Seb leading the way at 2.66! As regards results, Gaz won 80% of his matches and Pete Heskett 75%. Each and every player won more matches than they lost, so it was a true team effort!
We also won more matches than any other team, even those that played more matches in the final 3, and had the best winning % of all the nations in the competition at 66% (33/50).
Our overall PR was 3.37, which, despite numerous adjustments against the weaker nations, was the joint best PR in the whole tournament (tied with Denmark).

In our final round against Iran, we were extremely unlucky to lose. Reece lost what effectively became a race at DMP after leading by over 50 pips! From the position above, we lost, with no hits and no errors – this was the match that eliminated us.
Overall, I am very pleased with the team’s performance, and I feel there are lots of positives to take away from the tournament and into the live event in Stockholm in July of this year. As ever, your interest and support is very much appreciated by me and the whole team!
Yours sincerely,
Chris Rogers
(UK Captain)
