The 2014 UK Open next month will follow the double-elimination format of the Nordic Open. Eight quarter-finalists will emerge by the close of play on the Saturday: four from the ‘Undefeated’ bracket and four from the ‘Fighters’ bracket. Match lengths and other details are now shown on the Format and Schedule page. Meanwhile in just one week’s time, on Saturday 23rd August, the last in the series of Grosvenor qualifiers at the G Casino in Newcastle will be giving away TWO SEATS for the Championship flight. To enter this Qualifier, register with the casino by email.
With the number of registered players currently totalling one hundred and twenty-three, enquiries and registrations for the UK Open itself are still steadily trickling in. With added money in the one-pointers commencing Friday 19th at noon, as well as in the warm-up on Friday evening, you could be well-advised to devote a long weekend to backgammon!
Finally, due to an unexpected block cancellation by another client yesterday, the DeVere Hotel at the Ricoh have been able to give us a further allocation of double ‘Club’ rooms for the Friday and Saturday nights at a preferential rate of £60 per night excluding breakfast.
