Since the launch of the UKBGF website just two weeks ago, a total of 36 players have registered for the first UK Backgammon Open at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry next September. These include top UK experts such as Raj Jansari, Julian Fetterlein, Chris Bray, Lawrence Powell, Rachel Rhodes and Stuart Mann; and two prominent Irish players, Brendan Burgess and Dave “Cracker” McNamara.
Several more overseas players have expressed interest, and Paul Money and Carter Mattig (of course!), have both registered. Many more have indicated, either verbally or on the UKBGF Facebook page, that they will be coming. Find out who’s already registered by checking the regularly-updated list of tournament attendees.
The UK Open is not just aimed at expert players – we want everyone who enjoys live backgammon to participate. There is an Intermediate Flight for the more social, or aspiring, players, and two separate 1-day Beginners’ competitions to encourage those who have only recently taken up the game.
Eleven months may seem like a long way off, but the available places are being taken daily. If you are planning to attend please register now to secure your spot. Numbers are limited by the size of the venue and we may close one or both main flights when we are approaching capacity.
Just email email@example.com and say in which flight you would like to play. I will reply with payment instructions for the registration fee. If you are planning to stay at the deVere Hotel at the Ricoh we strongly recommend that you make your room reservation at the same time. Our room allocation at preferential rates is limited, after which the price may rise.
Please remember that both your tournament registration and hotel reservation are at no risk: you may cancel both without penalty at any time up to 4th September 2014. You might also win your seat in the Championship Flight via one of the Qualifiers being hosted by Grosvenor Casinos. If so, and you have pre-registered, this will also entitle you to a refund of your registration fee.
The 2014 UK Open is shaping up to be an unmissable event on the 2014 backgammon calendar. Make sure you are in. Register now.
