Registration is now open for the inaugural Sheffield Open on Saturday, May 30.
The one-day event will be held at the Owen Building in the city, close to the main train station.

Alongside the main tournament, there’s also a tournament for novice/new players.
We’re delighted to announce the return of its highly acclaimed Backgammon Boot Camp by Jangler, following the outstanding success of last year’s inaugural event. The first boot camp sold out in just three days and received exceptional feedback from players who reported significant improvements in both technical play and match confidence. Due to overwhelming demand, capacity has now been expanded for this edition — but with only six places remaining, early registration is strongly advised.
Brighton might be “breezy”, but it was a stormy Scarborough that greeted the 64 players in the weekend’s Open. Wind and rain battered the clifftop Grand Hotel; meanwhile inside, battle commenced in the tournament with a unique format.
In all, there were 12 categories/warm-up competitions, including a “lifebelt” section – which would have been as much use as a chocolate fireguard in the sea outside the venue.
A landmark final and an open invitation for 2026
The UK Backgammon Federation’s Intermediates Doubles Development League has delivered a superb first season, combining high-quality competition with a genuine development pathway for aspiring intermediate players. The league was created to give intermediate players the chance to compete in a structured, high-level environment while learning directly from some of the UK’s strongest and most experienced players.
Over the course of the season, partnerships have battled through a demanding league format, sharpening their match play, cube decisions, teamwork and mental game. The standard has been outstanding throughout, and the league has proven exactly what it set out to be a serious competitive arena with learning at its heart. Now, after months of intense and highly entertaining matches, the inaugural season reaches its climax.
