In 2025 we had more than fifty players battle it out in their quest for the coveted crystal cube, with our deserving champion Anna Price topping off a phenomenal year and emerging triumphant against Yas Turan in an exciting final. You can rewatch that match here and we tempted 2024 winner Rachel Rhodes into the commentary box! We’d love to see an even bigger field this year, as we continue to encourage more women to participate in tournament events and hone their match skills.
For the first time in the UKBGF’s history, we have 1,000* current members.
Federation chair Julia Hayward said: “We’re delighted to announce this milestone. More and more people are joining clubs across the country, including the latest club at Inverness which will hold their first meeting next week.
A brand-new club in Scotland – Inverness Backgammon Club – is opening this month. It becomes the most northerly backgammon club in the UK, extending the reach of organised play further than ever before. The launch marks another positive step in the continued growth of backgammon across the country, bringing regular face-to-face play to an area that has not previously had access to club nights and competition.
Steve Wilson was motivated to create the club after becoming tired of only playing online himself and at the same time seeing many clubs on social media highlighting the social aspects of the game. And so he was inspired to create a relaxed space where local people and visitors to Inverness could get out the house, meet new friends and have fun playing causally or competing.
At Jangler we believe in the power of the game. While we already support UKBGF members through our Intermediate Boot Camps, we know that true mastery requires more than just a weekend—it requires dedicated mentorship.

My journey to the Gibraltar Open side-stepped several players being bounced between Gib & Malaga like a pinball, with the captain saying stuff like, “we think there may be a window to land, so we’re going to have a crack, and see how it goes…” I will be forever grateful I didn’t run that gauntlet. My own journey was special in its own unique way, including a missed flight and all but scratching from the tournament.
