The Steel City hosted its first backgammon Open on the last Saturday of May which saw Adrian Jones crowned the first Sheffield Open champion. And the event had a special and novel section – just for novices with 32 players taking part in the main tournament and 16 in the novices part.
The event was very well organised by Mark Lane and Rosie Flack, with big thanks also to Ruth Flack who helped to run the novices’ section. Mark’s sister, Lucinda Dransfield – a local craftsperson – supplied the trophies for both flights.
